Garden Planning

2025

We have gotten by with limited garden planning.  We see what comes back from our compost, buy plants on the fly, and always accept extra plants from friends.  This is the first year my husband and I are planning our garden space together.  I wanted to document my intentions, so I can reference throughout the season.

To start planning, I researched possibilities for crops according to our gardening zone, 6a.  Then I calculated the amount of plants I could grow given the space we have.  I narrowed down and allocated an amount to each plant.  I am planning to have about 200 plants, ten of each variety.  Lastly I looked at the time frame, so I know when to start from seed, transplant, and harvest.  At the same time, I decided the garden location for each plant.

We have two planter boxes with covers alongside our garage.  We surround the planter boxes with multiple pots and save some ground space for planting in between the planter boxes.

We have three smaller planter boxes sandwiching our compost tumbler and another one placed near our house.

And our newest addition is a set of planter boxes near our chicken coop.

We never got our garlic bulbs in the ground, so as soon as we have a warm weekend we need to do that!

I plan to start all my other plants from seed, starting in March.
