Tutoring
Welcome to my tutoring and teaching page! I have been teaching since 2009. I love teaching and helping learners find their passion.
Unfortunately, most schools do not focus on student inquiry, interests, or strengths. Students are crammed into large classes, thrown on their IPads or Chromebooks, limited to their access outdoors, forced to stay quiet and seated, evaluated on their test scores, and fed poor quality school lunches. It is difficult for me to take part in, and I believe it is harming our children and stunting their academic, social, and emotional growth.
I am looking for a way to stay in education while staying true to my values and beliefs. I would love to find like-minded families or individuals who are looking for an alternative to mainstream education.
In addition to being a SAHM for 7 years and educating my own children in their early years, I also have experience teaching Kindergarteners - high school in the public and private school setting. I have worked as an English tutor helping adults who relocated to the United States and a private tutor working elementary and high school students. I believe in building relationships with my students and families so we can all be partners in education. I strive to incorporate student strengths and interests, nature, games, and real-world learning in my teaching.
I have experience teaching study skills, time management, reading, writing, elementary math, and English as a second language. I give students the tools and strategies needed to be successful in their subjects and in life.
The short videos below are a few examples of me explaining 4th grade common core math. I use a number of strategies and methods when teaching, but this is the way most students learn math in public schools.
I am available for virtual and in-person tutoring, as well as individual and small group sessions. To learn more, please reach out via e-mail.
