Laundry Hack

I've heard there are people out there who can actually do one load of laundry from start to finish, all at one time.  Like these people can actually wash, dry, fold, and put away a load of laundry in 24 hours. That leaves me in absolute awe.  I'm more of a "do five loads of laundry and dig through the baskets to find clean clothes" kind of gal.

Piles of laundry sit on a used couch and in two baskets on the floor. The giant coffee table is piled with toys and books and dishes

However, I have found a trick that helps me manage this system I have in place.  (Because let's be honest, I am never going to be that motivated with laundry.)

It all starts with putting all of my clean clothes on my bed.  Then I quickly sort into piles - work clothes, exercise outfits, weekend attire, undies and socks.

My exercise outfits get tossed into drawers near my exercise room, my weekend attire gets put into my dresser upstairs, and I put my socks and undies in bins under my bed.  I don't worry about matching my socks anymore because I don't feel like it saves me any time, and it definitely doesn't bring me happiness.

Now all I am left with is my work clothes. This is where the real magic happens.  I start putting the clothes away by outfit!  I am a very visual person, so I lay the outfits out on these shelves that sit upon my dresser.  This makes it so much easier to get ready every morning! If anything gets wrinkly, I either iron it or toss it in the dryer for a few minutes and shake it out.

I also have the option to hang up some outfits if needed.  This works out great if I have a crisp outfit that needs to stay that way.  I rarely have clothes hanging, but at least I have the space if need be.

I keep my shoes and clothes that didn't make the cut here.  I also have a dresser where my weekend clothes go.

The last time I did this, I had 20 outfits ready to go.  This eliminates so much excess laundry piles and saves me tons of time in the mornings.  When I have many options, I can always find an outfit that feels comfortable and is appropriate for the weather.

When I get home, I just put the outfit I wore on top of my dresser.  Once that piles up, I repeat the process again.

I love the look of an aesthetically appealing, organized closet and will get wrapped up organization shows that demonstrate the possibilities!  But for most of us, that will never be a reality and that is ok!

We all need to find what works for us, and this system works for me.  Maybe it will work for you!
